Every child in South Sudan deserves a pen and a classroom.

We fund classrooms, school supplies and school fees for children in South Sudan, working hand in hand with partners on the ground.

Too many children never sit in a classroom.

South Sudan has one of the highest rates of out-of-school children in the world. Years of conflict, poverty and distance mean that many children never start school, and many more leave too early.

Girls are often the first to be kept at home. But every child, girl or boy, loses something when school is out of reach: the chance to read, to write, and to choose their own future.

What we fund

Everything we do is decided with our partners in South Sudan, who know each school and each community.

Classrooms

Building and repairing safe classrooms, with desks, a blackboard and separate latrines for girls and boys.

School supplies

Notebooks, pens, books and school bags, so every child arrives ready to learn.

School fees and uniforms

Covering the costs that keep children at home, so families never have to choose which child goes to school.

Where your money goes

Every gift pays for something real. Here is what it can cover today.

$15

Notebooks and pens for one child for a school year.

$40

A uniform and a school bag for one child.

$100

One year of school fees for one child.

$2,000

A share of a new classroom, built with the local community.

Costs are set with our partners in South Sudan and updated as prices change.

Our story

The Nyakalam Foundation has one goal: getting more children in South Sudan into school, and keeping them there.

We work directly with partners in South Sudan, who identify the schools and families that need support. We share what we fund, with photos and updates, so you can see exactly what your gift has done.

We work directly with local actors.

No layers of intermediaries. We work hand in hand with the people who know each school and each family best.

  • Teachers and school leadersThey tell us what their classrooms and pupils need most.
  • Community leadersThey help identify the children who are out of school and the families who need support.
  • Local organisations and suppliersSupplies and building work are sourced locally, which supports the local economy.

Our partners send us photos and updates on what each gift has funded, and we share them with you.
